The Champions Program:
Champions are support by the WA Digital Inclusion Project team throughout their journey as a Champion and are compensated for their time, both to complete training and deliver sessions.
We are seeking Champions from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. We encourage people from all walks of life to apply. We provide individualised support to each Champion to reduce barriers to participation.
The Community Champions Program is part of the WA Digital Inclusion Project. We recruit members of the community to become Champions. Champions get training to organise and run digital information sessions. These sessions can be for friends, family or your community. Champions receive eftpos gift cards for attending training and running their own sessions.
Champions are community members who run digital info sessions as a part of the program. These sessions can be with friends, family or community members. A Champion gets training and resources from the Project team.
The digital information sessions focus on using digital technology. They cover:
• scam awareness and eSafety,
• where to find reliable information online, and
• how to connect with further training opportunities.
The Project will pay for a venue if needed and provide support to Champions.
You can be a part of the Program for a few weeks or a few months. Champions must run at least one digital info session to at least 10 people. Some Champions have wide networks and can run more sessions.
The Project will end in June 2025; Champions need to finish all their sessions by April 2025.
As a guide, you can expect that applying, interviewing and training can take about 6 weeks.
Apart from running digital info sessions with your community, as a Champion you also get:

Community Champions come from a wide range of backgrounds. If you live in WA and meet some simple criteria, you can become a Champion too!
To become a Champion, you must:
For more information, see the selection criteria section on the Champions website.
To become a Champion, you will need:
After completing an Expression of Interest, Champions attend a brief informal interview. During that interview, we will discuss if the program is the right fit for you. We will ask you some questions about you and your community.
Disability is no barrier to participation in the Community Champions Program. We provide resources in accessible formats to support inclusion. We will also discuss any support you need to attend training and run a session during your interview.
We already have Champions from a wide variety of backgrounds. We have found that this allows the Program to reach a variety of communities. We welcome any people with disabilities to get involved.
If you need support to complete an expression of interest, please contact us.
All facilitation training is currently delivered in English. You will need a basic understanding of English to take part in the training. You can deliver information sessions in any language. We provide translated resources for you to run sessions in your preferred language.
The Champions Program aims to provide information to the community through peer-run sessions. This means that Champions are community members, not people doing this as a part of their job.
The Program is not for staff of community service organisations or government agencies. If you want to discuss your individual circumstances with us, please get in touch.
The Project runs training for community sector staff and organisations. To find out more about free staff training, email us on [email protected]
